Fire Prevention at Enava
With over 30 years’ experience in the industry, we have grown to become one of the UK’s leading paper processing specialists and we are proud to be the largest fibre processing plant in South Wales. The volume of waste we handle on a weekly basis means that there is a significant risk of fire.
The number of fires at waste and recycling facilities in 2021 continued to be an issue as industry players grappled with an influx of recycled materials due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as potentially hazardous materials, including combustible lithium-ion batteries – which can sometimes sneak in to inbound loads, going unnoticed. There is also the risk of machinery igniting when overused.
At Enava, we’re always looking for ways to eliminate the risk of fire and this year we are delighted to announce the introduction of a state-of-the-art fire suppression system at our Llandow based processing centre. The equipment cost an eye watering £400,000.
The Helios Fire Suppression System is designed to prevent fires within our paper and cardboard bales. The infra-red system automatically scans the 60,000sq foot site for hot spots and if an area of enhanced heat is detected, targeted jets with automatically set to work pouring 100’s of tonnes of water on a specific spot.
We’re delighted to announce that the system is now installed and is scanning and monitoring our site 24 hours a day.
Thanks to Helios for their hard work and great customer service.
